My son is turning 2! In a little over a month. And can you believe that I'm just NOW starting to plan for his birthday party??? So unlike me! If you knew me personally, you'd know that I like to take my time when planning. Scour my head for ideas... scour OTHER places for ideas. Let it come to me in it's own time. Of course, my good friends say I'm best under pressure which makes me a fabulous event planner because I can pull it out with the quickness. Whatever. :) Time is gotten away from me this year (even though back in the summer I said I needed to get started.)
Bygones.
So to kick off my planning of the 2nd birthday, I thought I'd post a couple pictures of his FIRST birthday party. With the temps turning cooler and holidays upon us, it's the perfect time to put a few pictures out of a Winter ONEderland party!
Invitations.
I used simple invitations. White cardstock with frosty blue lettering with rhinestones in the center of the snowflakes for a little extra twinkle. White cardstock was mounted onto stardream metallic silver cardstock. I love metallic cardstock, when the theme allows. Invitations were sent in matching silver metallic envelopes purchased from Envelope Mall. Love Envelope Mall! Great prices and quick shipping. 'Nuff said.
We held this party at my parent's home which never needs much additional decoration.
I added a shimmery tree branch centerpiece featuring one hanging frame for every month of his life.
The tree branches were spray painted white with glued on crystal beads for more sparkle. I set the branches into a thick snow type filler with clear crystal like vase fillers from Pottery Barn. I used a wide narrow vase from Pottery Barn to spread the branches out lengthwise.
Cake
I wanted a dramatic cake since it was his first birthday. (Heck, who am I kidding, I always want a dramatic cake for a birthday!) Anyway, I made this the night before and sprayed it with Wilton's Color Mist. The sugar snowflakes I found from a California baker on ebay! The cake stand is mine and I used coconut shavings as snow and again filled in with the Pottery Barn vase filler crystals. Cake stand is mine and the cake topper is actually an ornament I found at the Dollar Store!
Balloons!
Yeah, yeah. Balloons are a hazard for small children. Eh. Children love balloons and nothing spells fun and festive to a child like balloons. So yes, we had them. Quite a few. Enough to cover the ceiling and, of course, the obligatory number 1!
Favors
With a child's party comes children guests and that means ya gotta have fun things for them.
I ran across a seller on etsy who made me these fabulous felt gift bags for $2 each! Including the embroidery! I sent her a list of the children's names and I had them literally 2 days later! Filled them up with fun toys for the children to entertain each other while the adults mingled.
All in all, it was a SMASHING good time!
