Creative take on the easter egg "ornament".
Here's how to make them:
- small balloons
- embroidery floss
- scissors
- pin
- a fabric stiffener such as Stiffy
- string
How to:
1. Blow up balloons and tie off. Make them small to realistically resemble eggs.
2. Cut your floss in long lengths. About 2 feet.
3. Pour the stiffener into a small bowl.
4. Dip the floss into the stiffener and soak. Pull each length out and get rid of the excess by running the floss through your fingers.
5. Wrap the floss around the egg. Make crisscross patterns and cover it until it looks how you'd like. Don't be afraid to use different colors on one egg.
6. Tie the string to the knot. Hang them to dry overnight. They need to be thoroughly dry.
7. After it is completely dry, pop the balloon with the pin. Gently pull the balloon out through an opening in the floss.
Eggs can be hung or displayed in baskets, centerpieces, etc.

Love these. I could have made these instead of buying the glitter ones for my Ikea tree. I think I made something like that for Christmas when I was a kid? It's bring back memories...popping the balloon after it dries. Great idea! ;)

What would you use to color these? Plain ol' food coloring? I want to try these with my stepgirls.

Sorry, I am obviously craft-challenged. I saw the whitishness on some of the eggs and for some reason thought these started out as white. No, duh, it's the Stiffy! Thanks ... (crawling off to read a crafts for dummies book)

How cool would these be as Christmas ornaments??? I am not sure I have time for the eggs before Easter now...but I may try. I am wondering what would happen with a small baloon, emboridery thread and just spraying it with strong starch?? I may try both if ever I find the time.....
